Survey statistics has a long history in the Nordic countries - in university education, research and practice. Co-operation between Baltic and Nordic countries in the field of survey statistics began in 1992 - between universities as well as statistical agencies. A Baltic-Nordic network for co-operation on education and research in survey statistics grew continuously since 1996. Since then the network has expanded to include partner universities from Ukraine and further, from Belarus and Poland. 

The functioning and activities of the Baltic-Nordic-Ukrainian Network on Survey Statistics - BNU Network are described in an article by Gunnar Kulldorff (1927-2015), the founder of the network. The article "STATISTICAL SCIENCE IS INTERNATIONAL – AND SURVEY STATISTICS IS COOL AND HOT" is published in the Lithuanian Journal of Statistics - Lietuvos statistikos darbai, 2014, vol. 53, No 1, pp. 78–87, and is available here.

Past Events Organized by the BNU Network

More than 100 month-long exchange visits have been made by university teachers, research students and government statisticians in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine to partner universities in Finland and Sweden.
