Copyright issues
To note when adding content
It’s always allowed to link to things found freely on the internet. You can also embed videos from Youtube - embedding is possible only when the owner has allowed it! When embedding, do remember to mark the author of the video clearly. If the author has allowed public screening, e.g. using a Creative Commons license, please mention it (and link to the license). You can also use the label cc on the page.
Uploading your own content that is not available freely somewhere on the internet
Upload only content you have right to - when uploading materials made by a friend or a colleague, ask first! Specify how your material can be used. You can always license it with a Creative Commons license (choosing a license: http://creativecommons.org/choose/)
Using the method wiki in teaching
Videos and other content licensed with Creative Commons can be used in teaching without an additional permission (mentioning the author, of course). Otherwise the interpretation of the copyright law in Finland is quite strict: Youtube videos are considered films, and for a public screening of films, you’d need a permission from the copyright holder (and teaching is considered public). More info in Finnish here. It is, however, possible to use links in your learning materials without restrictions.
If it’s allowed to use the material in question in your teaching (by a Creative Commons license or a permission otherwise granted), it’s mentioned in the description. The license text or conditions are also linked and a label cc is used on the page.
