Here we explain, how a new user gets a username and a password to access Kotka.

Personnel of Finnish universities

User

  1. Go to the address https://login.laji.fi
  2. Choose Haka as the authentication method, login with your university username and password and follow the instructions (a user identifier is created).
  3. Confirm your email address.
  4. Take a look at the address https://login.laji.fi/self to see what your user identifier in FinBIF is (MA-identifier)
  5. Ask your own organisations Kotka contact person to ask for access to Kotka (tell your MA-identifier to the contact person).

Kotka contact person

  1. Requests for access for the new user and sends to following information to kotka(at)luomus.fi:
    1. MA-identifier
    2. First name and last name
    3. Email address
    4. To which organisation(s) the person belongs to and should be linked to in Kotka (preferrably MOS-code for organisation but name if MOS not known).
    5. how long the user rights for Kotka will be valid (date until or for the time being)

Kotka admin

After receiving the request from the Kotka contact person

  1. Enters the information in Triplestore
    1. (First name, last name, whole name, email received automatically from creating a FinBIF account)
    2. Organisation: for the predicate MA.organization a MOS-identifier
    3. MA.defaultQNamePrefix (Turku: utu, Oulu: zmuo or herbo, Luomus: luomus, others: tun)
    4. Kotka role: member
  2. Tells the user and the contact person that the username has been created

Users in other organisations

Kotka can be accessed using Haka, Virtu, or laji.fi authentication, and users outside Finnish universities will use laji.fi authentication.

User that already has a FinBIF user account

  1. Go to the address https://login.laji.fi/self to see what is your peson identifier in FinBIF (MA-identifier)
  2. Ask your organisation's Kotka contact person to ask for access to Kotka, tell your MA-identifier for the contact person.

User that does not have a FinBIF user account

  1. Go to the address https://login.laji.fi
  2. Choose Create account /Luo tunnus and create an account.
  3. Confirm your email address.
  4. Take a look at the address https://login.laji.fi/self to see what your user identifier in FinBIF is (MA-identifier)
  5. Ask your own organisations Kotka contact person to ask for access to Kotka (tell your MA-identifier to the contact person).
