Online news Media

On this page we introduce some tools and sites that can be used for gathering information from online media sites. The tools include some that gather and help analyse data from all around the web. There are also links to various Finnish media where you can search for past news articles.

  • Open-source platform for doing media analysis
• Large collections of stories published in STT and Yle are available in Kielipankki.
• Finnish National Library Digital archives give access to historical media data
  • Access to newspapers until 2021 granted for 15 Finnish universities through the Tutkain service - create an account to get broader access and use Python to download full texts. 
• KORP Kielipankki (The Language Bank of Finland)
  • ...stores full-text versions of some Finnish language media, but usually, there's a few years' lag. Select "Lehti- ja uutisaineistoja" from the dropdown menu to explore. The browser tool can be used for exploring the data with corpus linguistic methods, and different export options available.
