  1. 4CAT
    • The Capture and Analysis Toolkit by Digital Methods Initiative UvA is a tool that can be used to scrape incoming posts on various forums, image boards and web platforms (including Reddit, Instagram and Telegram)  and then process them for further analysis.
    • You need to run your own instance in order to use the tool (on a server or on your own computer), see instructions and download code in the GitHub repository

  2. Zeeschuimer
    • Zeeschuimer is a browser extension for Firefox. It monitors internet traffic while you are browsing a social media site, and collects data about the items you see in a platform's web interface for later systematic analysis
    • Available platforms (in April 2026): TikTok (posts and comments), Instagram (posts only), X/Twitter, LinkedIn, 9gag, Imgur, Douyin, Gab, Threads, Truth Social, Pinterest, RedNote/Xiaohongshu
    • Data can be exported as a JSON file or exported to a 4CAT instance for analysis and storage.
