Association for Cross-scale Radiative Transfer Research (Scart)

ScaRT association is hosted by University of Helsinki – Department of Physics, Aalto University – Department of Built Environment, University of Jyväskylä – Department of Mathematical Information Technology, National Land Survey – Finnish Geospatial Research Institute, and Finnish Meteorological Institute.

Radiative transfer (RT) of energy, i.e., scattering, absorption, emission, and propagation of electromagnetic radiation (e.g., visible light), occurs in practically all systems of matter and radiation. RT provides information about the system’s physical and chemical properties, from nano-structures to the entire Universe (hence cross-scale). ScaRT removes obstacles to evaluating the radiation properties for the systems above. Applications range from modeling the astronomical and Earth observations, and the climate, to life sciences, nanotechnology, and noninvasive medical imaging.
