Cubbli 20.04 upgrade project

Cubbli 16 asennusten elinaika on lopussa. Cubbli 16 is nearing its end-of-life
Ubuntu 16.04 is nearing its end-of-life in April 2021 and will not be maintained anymore. This also applies to Cubbli 16.04 installations. We will email all known users of computers that still have old Cubbli 16 installed. All eligible computers with Cubbli 16 will get the newest Cubbli version, Cubbli 20. Network access to Cubbli 16 computers will be removed 1.5.2021.

Sait tämän postin koska olet meidän tietojemme mukaan koneen lx9-jotainvaan
pääasiallinen käyttäjä. Koneessa on Cubbli 16.04. Käyttöjärjestelmän
pohjana on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, jonka viiden vuoden tuki päättyy
huhtikuussa 2021. Cubbli 16 -koneiden käyttö täytyy lopettaa ja toiminta
estetään 1.5.2021. Kaikkiin käyttökelpoisiksi katsottuihin vanhoihin
koneisiin päivitetään uusin versio eli Cubbli 20.
Ota aina ensin varmuuskopiot!

Kun koneeseen päivitetään uusi Cubbli, koneen kotihakemisto (/home)
pyritään säilyttämään. Jotain yllättävää voi silti aina tapahtua ja käyttäjä
on itse vastuussa omien datojensa säilyvyydestä, eli varmistathan,
että tiedostosi ovat varmistuskopioitu, esimerkiksi verkkolevyllesi
ja/tai ulkoiselle kovalevylle.
Jos olet käyttänyt ylläpitäjän (sudo)-oikeuksia tiedostojen ja
ohjelmistojen asentamiseen juuritiedostojärjestelmään, niin
päivityksessä kaikki nämä muutokset poistetaan.
Asennusajankohdan valinta

Päivittämistä varten koneesi tulee olla yliopiston tiloissa lankaverkossa,
päällä ja virta kytkettynä. Mikäli sinulla ei ole työpistettä, neuvottele
suoraan oman lähitukesi kanssa päivityksestä. Aikaa päivitykseen menee
yleensä alle 4 tuntia.
Emme valitettavasti voi antaa päivittämisen ajaksi sinulle varakonetta
käyttöön johtuen suuresta päivitysmäärästä, mutta jos ehdottomasti
tarvitset konetta, voit kysyä varakonetta oman yksikkösi
palvelukoordinaattorilta. Pyrimme kuitenkin olemaan ripeitä ja ottamaan
huomioon työsi jatkuvuuden. Päivityksen voi tehdä myös lomasi aikana,
jos valmistelet koneesi sitä varten.
Vastaa tähän viestiin (cubbli-upgrade@helsinki.fi) ja ehdota sinulle
sopivaa hetkeä päivitykselle ja kerro rakennuksen nimi sekä huoneen
numero, missä koneesi lx9-jotainvaan sijaitsee.

We are reaching out for the main users of computers that still have the
Cubbli 16. The computer lx9-jotainvaan is associated with you. As you might
know, Cubbli 16 is based on the Ubuntu 16 LTS and it's end-of-life is in
April 2021. Cubbli 16 computers will be removed from the network
register on 1.5.2021. All eligible computers with Cubbli 16 will get the
newest version, Cubbli 20.
Please always first make a backup of your data!

When the new Cubbli is installed, we aim to preserve your home directory
(/home). However, something unexpected can always happen and you
are responsible for making a backup of your data. Please make a
backup of your home directory to a network drive and/or external drive.
If you have administrator (sudo) rights and have used them to install
anything in the system root directory 
, all these changes will be
lost during the upgrade.
Choosing the right time for the upgrade
---------------------------------------
The computer must be in the University premises, connected to the University
wired network, turned on, and the power must be connected for the upgrade.
If you don't have an office or can't use a cable, please contact your
local IT support to solve the problem.
The update usually takes less than 4 hours and we will try to be timid
and robust. We are unfortunately unable to give you a spare laptop for
the duration of the upgrade. If you absolutely must have a computer at
all times, you should consult your unit's Service Coordinator. However,
this upgrade can be done during your vacation, if you prepare the
computer beforehand.
Please suggest the best time window for you and reply to this email
(cubbli-upgrade@helsinki.fi). Include the name of the building and
office number where your computer lx9-jotainvaan is located in the reply email.

After the upgrade:
- you may want to install a local printer using "HY install Printers" from the HY-Menu
