In addition to specimen search, there are three more searches for advanced search purposes. The same search tools & settings are available for these searches, but the result unit differs.

Preparation/sample search

Preparation/sample information have their own section in the specimen data (see Specimen data entry). With Preparation/sample search, you can search for preparations made from and DNA or other samples taken from specimens. In this search the result unit is a sample, not an identification/unit as in specimen search. All available preparation/sample fields to target your search to start with the word sample. Start writing the word sample to the search field and Kotka will suggest fields to search from (see image below). It is also possible to search from all fields just by typing a search term to the field without specifying a field name.

It is possible to export the preparation/sample search results into an Excel file either in simple format (exports the columns chosen to the result table) or in Kotka specific format with all the specimen data included. It is possible to edit the data in Excel and import it back to Kotka (see Excel exports and mass editing)

Branch search

Branches are locations of garden accessions in a botanical gardens (puutarhasijoitus). With branch search, you can search for garden branches and the result unit is a branch. You can for example search by branch status (whether it is a living or dead branch), event type and garden locations (lohko). When you start typing the word branch or event to the search field, Kotka suggests possible fields to target the search to (see image below). It is also possible to search from all fields just by typing a search term to the field without specifying a field name.

It is possible to export the branch search results into an Excel file in a simple format (exports the columns chosen to the result table), but not in Kotka specific format like specimens. Thus mass edits for branches and events is not possible.

Culture search

Culture search is a simple, public search catalogue for HAMBI microbial cultures (so far no other organisation stores microbial culture information in Kotka). It can be accessed without signing in to Kotka. There are links from HAMBI web pages to these public search catalogues. If you have access to Kotka and want to search for culture collections, it is recommended to use the normal specimens search rather than the simple public catalogue.
