Collection quality rating

There used to be a quality rating from 1 to 5 stars. To overcome the issues related to it, we renewed the collection quality rating. The classification is now based on from whom the data was collected and how the data is curated and there are only three classes.

Citizen science / mostly uncurated

• Uncurated data from anyone
• Data collected by laymen/citizens/anyone and/or not formally curated
• i.e. Löydös, Spring monitoring, iNaturalist, invasive species observations collected from the public
• Mostly previous 1-2 stars

Expert hobbyist / expert curated

• Somewhat curated data from limited users
• Data collected by naturalists (luontoharrastajat) and/or semi-formal curation process
• i.e. Vihko general collection, NAFI, fungal atlas, perhaps some museum collections
• Mostly previous 2-3 stars

Professional /professionally curated

• Professionally collected, curated and/or maintained data.
• Data collected by professionals or skilled naturalists and/or formal curation processes, but not all data has necessarily been reviewed
• i.e. most museum collections, Hertta, LajiGIS, nature surveys by consultants, bird ringing data
• Mostly previous 4-5 stars
