Meteorological and gas concentration measurements are made at different heights on a 127-m tall tower and at the top of a 18-m tall scaffolding tower.
The elevation of the Smear II station is 178.88 m asl. (in KKJ / Finland Uniform Coordinate System + N60 height. The structural height of the tower above the ground surface is 127250 mm of which the height of the base is 450 mm. The uppermost wind speed and direction is measured at nearly 128 m height.
The meteorological measurements on the tall tower include vertical profiles of
- Air temperature
- Wind direction and wind speed
- Gas concentrations
- Diagnostics of gas measurements and autocalibration data
Other meteorological measurements include
- Air pressure
- Dew point temperature and relative humidity at 16 m heigh
- Present weather: rain, snow and visibility.
Radiation measurements consist of
- Incident solar radiation; total shortwave, photosynthetically active wavebands
- Reflected radiation; shortwave, PAR
- Narrow spectral range measurements; indicators of vegetation function
- Below-canopy PAR
- Thermal & net radiation; energy balance
