The prescribed burning experiment was conducted in the morning of 26.6.2009. The time of ignition (picture) was 08:45 (GMT +3), the flaming was over (picture) at 11:00 and there were only couple of visible smokes at 14:00.

The wind direction was favourable (175 - 215°) for steering the smoke to the SMEAR II only during the start of the experiment and the again during the late phase of the experiment when the flames were of but there was still plenty of smoke (wind direction, wind speed). In the end, the better time for the ignition would have been 12:00, but this wasn't the case according to the forecasts.
In addition to SMEAR II's measurements there was meteorological and ecological measurements on and around the site. There was also a highly sophisticated aerosol measurements in the moving van and some people walking around with portable aerosol particle counters. The most eye catching measurement was the aeroplane (picture) which was equipped with different kind of aerosol counters, gas analyzers and meteorological sensors.
