Images collected with our microscopes should be moved to skynet storage. The skynet storage is organized differently, depending on the type of operation system.

Please note that in both cases the files that are older than 90 days may be deleted!


Windows 10

this section is applicable for Hitachi TEM, Zeiss XB550, Quanta FEG 250 (support PC)

On Windows 10 PC, it is possible to save images directly to our network drive:

\\dept1.ad.helsinki.fi\em_skynet

To establish connection:

  • To get access to this drive, please contact EMBI staff. 


  • click "map em-skynet.cmd" icon on the desktop
  • type your username and password
  • S-drive with the direct access to the network drive will appear
  • Save images to S:\Users\YourUsername directory

  • The should be automatically mapped as L:\em_skynet

Window 7 and older

this section is applicable for all microscopes 

The collected images should be transferred to Skynet PC located in room 1412 next to Zeiss stereo microscope. 

To enable the transfer:

  • Map the Skynet computer: click on "Map skynet PC" icon on the Desktop to map it as R-drive
  • Save images to R:\YourUsername directory
