Microsoft Teams

The preferred way to use Microsoft Teams in Linux in the future is via the progressive webapp (PWA). You can use webapps with Edge and Chrome browsers. Both are installed by default in Cubbli. For Microsoft Teams, and other Microsoft applications, we recommend installing the PWAs through Microsoft Edge.

Note: Outlook is also available as a progressive webapp. The same procedure applies.

Example of setup with Edge:

Quick guide (no pictures)

  1. Open the Edge web browser
  2. Go to `teams.microsoft.com`
  3. Log in with <kasitunnus>@ad.helsinki.fi (e.g. example1@ad.helsinki.fi)
  4. Use the MFA.
  5. Open the "three-dots-menu" to the right of the address-bar, select "Apps" -> "Install Microsoft Teams"
  6. Click "Install" on the pop-up
  7. A newly installed Teams PWA should open
  8. From the Edge browser, open the previously mentioned "three-dots-menu" -> "Apps" -> "View Apps"
  9. On the new "Apps" window, click its "three-dots-menu", and select "Manage Apps"
  10. On "Microsoft Teams" card, select its "three-dots-menu", and press "Create shortcut..."
  11. Click you preferred choises (all by default), and click "Pin"
  12. You can now find Teams in the "Search menu"
  13. Open Teams from the "Search menu"
  14. On the application bar/Dashbar, right click Teams and select "Pin to Dash"
  15. You now have Teams installed and pinned to the Dashbar!

Long guide (with pictures)

1. Open the Edge web browser

4. Log in again with the same credentials on the University of Helsinki log-in page that should pop up.

5. The login, when successful, will prompt you to use MFA. This is either done via the Authenticator App on your phone, or by using the "call option".
Follow the instructions present on the screen.

6. If you don't want to do the MFA login everytime, click "Yes" for staying signed in.

7. Open the "three-dots-menu" to the right of the address-bar, select "Apps" -> "Install Microsoft Teams"

8. Click "Install" on the pop-up
