Thunderbird 365-calendar
1. Installing Thunderbird
If you already have Thunderbird installed, skip to Section 2.
To install Thunderbird on your system, run the following command:
Once installed, launch Thunderbird.
You'll be prompted to enter your account information. Refer to the example screenshot for the necessary settings:
If you have thunderbird already installed you can skip to section 2.
After entering your credentials, you'll be redirected to your university’s login portal. Sign in and complete the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) process as usual.
2. Configuring TbSync
As of now, TbSync is not available via Thunderbird's built-in add-ons manager, since the latest version only supports the beta version of Thunderbird.
Step 1: Download the Compatible TbSync Version
For Thunderbird version 128 (which is the version included in the official Snap package), download TbSync version 4.11 from the official website.
Check your Thunderbird version with:
Once downloaded, open Thunderbird and go to:
Menu → Add-ons and Themes
Drag and drop the downloaded TbSync .xpi file into the Add-ons manager. Thunderbird will prompt you to install it—click Add, then OK.
3. Setting Up Exchange ActiveSync
Once TbSync is installed, click the TbSync: Idle icon at the bottom right corner of Thunderbird.
Then navigate to:
Account Actions → Add New Account → Exchange ActiveSync
You’ll be prompted to install the Exchange ActiveSync add-on. Follow the link provided in the prompt and click:
Add to Thunderbird → Add → OK
Now, repeat the previous step:
TbSync: Idle → Account Actions → Add New Account → Exchange ActiveSync
You should now see the account setup screen:
Fill in the fields using the example shown in the screenshot, then click Add Account. You'll be prompted to sign in to your university account again—complete the login and MFA.
4. Finalizing Setup
After logging in:
- Check Enable and synchronize this account
- Choose which resources you'd like to sync (e.g., calendar, contacts)
- Click Synchronize now
Your university calendar and other resources should now be available in Thunderbird.
