After the course the student will understand the basics of using quantitative methods in describing  groundwater flow.

Lectures (partly video lectures), assignments, modelling exercises using GMS software or other suitable softwares.

-Hydrogeology course from Bachelor Program in Geosciences or equivalent knowledge.

13. Course content

-Opintojaksolla käydään läpi seuraavat osa-alueet: pohjaveden, pohjaveden muodostumiseen vaikuttavat tekijät, pohjaveden virtaukseen ja varastoitumiseen vaikuttavat tekijät, koepumppausten järjestäminen ja tulosten tulkinta Kurssilla harjoitellaan pohjaveden virtauksen ja haitta-aineen kulkeutumisen matemaattista mallintamista, johon liittyy pohjaveden virtaussuuntien ja nopeuksien, kaivojen sieppausalueiden ja haitta-aineen leviämisen arviointi, laadittujen mallien kalibrointi sekä virhetarkastelu

-Groundwater recharge, flow and storage, test pumping. calibration and evaluation of models.

There will be assignments dealing with mathematical modelling of groundwater flow and contaminant transport, groundwater flow patterns and flow rates as well as well capture zones.
