Operator Algebras, fall 2008
Lecturer
Scope
5 sp.
Type
Advanced studies.
Contents
See the overview for a short description of the course. In summary, we plan to focus on the following topics:
- C*-algebras of operators
- Toeplitz algebras
- invariant and reducing subspaces
- applications
The course is suitable for those interested in analysis, mathematical physics, or applied mathematics, and provides many topics ideal for further research, e.g. for Master's thesis and beyond. This can be further discussed with the lecturer.
Should you have any questions or think of taking part in the course, please send me an e-mail!
Prerequisites
Functional analysis, complex analysis, and linear algebra (or close equivalents; if in doubt discuss the requirements with the lecturer). For example, Sections 1.1-1.4 and 2.1-2.4 of my Operator Theory lecture notes are sufficient.
Lectures
Periods I and II, Mondays 12:00-2:00 in Exactum B322. The first lecture Sept. 1, 2008.
Way of performing
A final exam at the end of the course.
