The course has its own code also at Aalto and aims at providing basic mathematical and theoretical concepts needed in concrete Quantum Technology applications. The applications in view are those related to concrete experiments performed or ongoing in Aalto laboratories.
Contents
- Stochastic thermodynamics and thermometry
- GKSL master equation
- Quantum trajectories
Requirements
part I Some very basic understanding of probability is needed. Pre-knowledge of elementary quantum mechanics is recommended.
Literature
General reference textbooks for the course are
An alternative source for Open Quantum System are the on-line lectures created by Daria Anttila, Guillermo García-Pérez, Matteo Rossi, Boris Sokolov and based on a previous publication by Guillermo García-Pérez, Matteo A. C. Rossi, Sabrina Maniscalco. The project uses IBM Q Experience platform for simulating open quantum systems.
"Electron Interference", a scientific movie shot in 1976 which tells about the single electron interference experiment (the most beautiful in physics, according to a poll of the Physics World Journal in 2002). This experiment was performed for the first time in 1974.
Presemo
The course as a dedicated presemo room (web space). To access this web space just follow the foregoing link. Students are encouraged to use the presemo room for any civilized activity pertaining the course. We will also try to use the presemo room during the lectures for checking the student response to multi-answer questions. For this reason, we encourage students to have a mobile device with them when attending classes.
Timetable
More details on lectures' content in the course synopsis. The Zoom link to the lecture will appear about 15 min before the lecture.

Exercises
Exercises for PMG's part will be available on Fridays around 12:00. You have one week to complete the exercises, the deadline is the ensuing Friday at 12:00.
The exercises can be done either in clear handwriting or in latex. Upload a clear picture/scan/pdf of your solutions directly to assignment on the Moodle page.
Remember Tuesdays we have exercise classes where questions can be asked about the exercises.
