Social Programme

A number of social events will be organised to make your stay in Helsinki enjoyable. Since the number of participants for some of the events is limited, you are kindly asked to make your reservation in advance upon the on-line registration.

In addition, take a look at Visit Helsinki for current events. It is the city of Helsinki’s official website for tourism and travel information.

Monday, August 5

All participants and registered accompanying persons are cordially invited to the Public lecture "Shape of Space" by Jeff Weeks and to the reception of the University of Helsinki after the lecture.

Free admission for registered participants and accompanying persons. Please, sign in upon registration.

The City of Helsinki has the pleasure to invite the participants with their registered accompanying persons to a reception at the City Hall.

Wednesday, August 7

Billnäs started up in 1641 and is the first Finnish ironworks that was founded by a entrepreneur. The leaders of the first industries in our country met each other here and they laid the foundations of the current welfare of Finland. For more than 300 years Billnäs Ironworks represented the top of Finnish industrial innovation.

Billnäs Ironworks is located in Raasepori (address: Ruukintie 8, 10330 Billnäs). The distance from Helsinki is about 80 km.

In Billnäs we will have a guided tour and lunch buffet (in restaurant Ravintola Ruukinpatruuna).

The excursion lasts approx. 6-7 hours.

Price: 40 EUR/person including lunch buffet.

 

Friday, August 9

Conference Dinner at the Restaurant Walhalla in Suomenlinna.

On Friday, August 9, we will have a cruise from the Market Square on m/s Natalia along the Helsinki sea front. After the cruise (which lasts about one and a half hours), we will dock at the Suomenlinna sea fortress (King’s Gate’s quay), a UNESCO World Heritage site, on the island of Suomenlinna only a few minutes trip away from the Helsinki mainland. The conference dinner will take place at Restaurant Walhalla located at the sea fortress. After the dinner, m/s Natalia will take us directly back to Helsinki mainland.
