DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN INVERSE PROBLEMSDoctoral Program in Inverse Problems (former Inverse Problems Graduate School) is a doctoral program jointly offered by 7 departments in 6 universities in Finland: - University of Helsinki, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, The doctoral program is funded by the Ministry of Education and it is working in close collaboration with the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Inverse Problems (granted by the Academy of Finland for the period 2006-2011). CALL FOR GRADUATE STUDENT POSITIONSInverse Problems Graduate School has 5 doctoral student positions funded by the Ministry of Education for the period 2010-2013. Two of these positions are open and will be filled at September 1, 2010 and the length of the appointments will be up to three and half years. This call concerns also other positions which may be opened later in the academic year 2010-2011. These positions may be offered for promising applicants in this call. The funded doctoral student positions are intended for full-time study and research leading to a doctoral degree. The doctoral student will, in addition to research for the doctoral thesis, participate in teaching and other duties at the relevant department. Salary will be paid according to levels 1 - 4 of the university salary scale for teaching and research staff, in addition to which the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. In addition, non-funded positions are offered: a non-funded position entitles the student to participate in IPGS activities, to apply for money for travelling etc. Non-funded students must report their progress similarly to funded students. In short, the only difference between funded and non-funded students is the source of their salary. WHO CAN APPLY?The applicants need to have a Master degree before they can start in the graduate school. An interest in scientific research and the work of a researcher is essential. The applicant should already have a committed supervisor in the graduate school. In case the applicant's supervisor is not listed in our board of advisors, the applicant is asked to contact one of the members of the board of advisors in advance to discuss his/her application.
