How to Keep a MetaLib Session Alive

MetaLib sessions time out, by default, in 15 minutes. For many users this is problematic because they need to keep the session there while they check out the resulting articles etc. Here is a method we use to keep the MetaLib session from timing out.

  1. Create a file named keepalive in www_v_eng (and other languages) with the following contents:
  2. Modify meta-tags, remove the line marked with minus sign and add the lines marked with plus sign:
  3. That's it! Now JavaScript-enabled browsers will request the keepalive page from the server every 10 minutes, so the session will stay alive as long as a MetaLib page is still displayed in the browser (and MetaLib is not restarted, of course).
